August 25th

a jagged spite sting

devil fork dragged from the ground

to strike at heaven

Thunder and fork lightning in London today, they had to close the Cabinet War Rooms because water was cascading in like a waterfall. Tourists were taking photos of it through the glass firedoor, whilst their canvas shoes were getting soaked. The water level was rising. All this talk of floods made me think of biblical themes.

Anyway… Remember lightning goes from the ground into the clouds, not the other way round.

July 29th

The sky blacken-warped

masses and oppresses them

cowering in caves

Thunderstorms are scary. It pricks at something ancient embedded inside us. Reminds us that we are not the boss. Natural events can fry you, drown you, starve you, kill you in any number of ways, as well as inspire you. No wonder we started worshipping the sea, the sun and nature, afraid of offending the whimsical feelings of a God.

April 22nd

Gaze turns to the oak

eater of storms and vivid

in the solar glare

The oak tree visible from our back window is impressive, that distinctive shape, the arc of branches, that sturdy trunk, unyielding. It’s anytime going to be sprouting green, at the moment it still hints at winter, with it’s barren appearance. It does not detract from how magnificent it looks. Especially when the sun bathes it in light and the clouds behind it are black and threatening. Only an oak can hold it’s own when the weather makes war with itself.

Here is a pic of it I took earlier this evening.
