2012, 366 days (we have a leap year) of Haikus. Following the 5-7-5 syllable structure. Wish me luck!

the tap of metal
on porcelain waiting for
my love to wake up
hungry wide pupils
throat barbs ploughed, antagonised
restless, sapped of sleep
I believe it is a bit of a no-no to punctuate Haikus. You’ll have to let me off. I’m ill. Got a raging sore throat. Didn’t get much sleep.
the first frost melted
in the rising cocksure sun
whilst I slumbered on
a cherub asleep
in the blackout sanctity
of my feather bed
agitated wait
bloodshot pacing, night walking

I should be in bed. Early early flight in the morning. Off to Ireland for Electric Picnic.
Roused from their slumber
bearded green men stretch their limbs
verdant hands open
Driving to work I noticed the trees looked like people, some of them had beards or cloaks made of ivy, they were no longer naked, forced to stand through the dark winter. Leaves were growing on their cold limbs. Their arms were stretched up rejoicing in the Spring. This time of year is wonderful. I keep saying it don’t I?
Behind the blackouts
a faultless sky forgiving
alive and lucid
Blackout curtains are great, I think they help me to sleep better. The absence of light helps me to turn off part of my brain and leads to restful nights. I like the lottery of mornings, blearly eyed, staggering to the window to open it a peep. Check what the weather is like. How do I know it’s morning if I keep going on about flippin’ blackout curtains? Because I’ve got an alarm silly! Dur!
Anyway this morning was beautifully sunny, my pupils shrunk in pain at the sunlight assault pouring through onto my retinas. When they adjusted a bit I looked out to a perfect blue sky. The clouds were absent. Wonderful.
An ode to my bed,
My favourite furniture,
Good for sleeping in.
I love my bed. Blackout curtains drawn. I’m going to have a lovely lie in tomorrow. That is all.
Heavy lids, aching,
Fitful sleep, dark dreams, dark clouds,
Keep writing, thinking.
I felt and feel rather ill today. Had only a few hours sleep, interrupted by sore throat and a raging thirst. Was meant to go up to Yorkshire for work, but I couldn’t possibly do it. So I worked from home. A long old day too. This morning, I could feel the cold boring into me, my brain in some sort of fuzzy cocoon, sheltered and distant.
The dark clouds just added to this feeling of melancholy. I was in a bit of a daze, but there is a kind of perverse enjoyment in this feeling too. I feel creative and different when I’m ill. Sadness brings out the best in my writing. Shame my creative attention was distracted by my day job, this was a day I could have happily curled up in bed with a laptop and did a bit of stream of consciousness. Sadly, despite the big build up, today’s Haiku isn’t the best. Never mind. It’s not even the end of the first month and I’m struggling. But working long hours with only a laptop screen and small window to look out of (and Loose Women on ITV when I have my lunch) doesn’t give me much inspiration.
I hope I’m better tomorrow, I must’ve had 5000 calories today. Need fresh air and exercise. And sleep, blessed sleep.
